about

"Inch By Inch" is the single release from Debbie's upcoming EP, 'Measures + Waits', due out 3/27/12.

"Inch by Inch" was written by Debbie Miller & Leah Goldstein.

A note from Debbie:
"Inch by Inch" began as a song I was writing for the piano, but couldn't finish. Songwriter Leah Goldstein & I wanted to collaborate, and she came over for a songwriting session (on Valentine's Day no less). I played for her what I had of "Inch by Inch", and we finished most of it on the spot, folding in new lyrics and melodies. We used to perform it with a dummy lyric at the end: "Aladdin was a diamond in the rough" instead of "We'll save them all so we have enough". We were the only ones who found that funny.

During a rehearsal for my first album release (Fake Love - 2010), the band found the song a little boring. With the help of producer Greg Coladarci, drummer Fred Kennedy, and bassist Matt Wigton, "Inch By Inch" came to life. We made a recording of it that summer (in a bedroom in Brooklyn), but I moved to Seattle and we weren't able to finish it. Meanwhile, Fred recorded his part in his own studio in Queens. Fast forward to summer 2011: we finally added Amanda Gookin's missing cello part to "Inch by Inch" at the Creamery Studio in Brooklyn, NY - and viola! The beautiful and dynamic arrangement you hear, complete with chorale elements, strings, and guitalele, is the result of incredible musicians coming together to make one song happen.
